After owning and building numerous vans, we settled on this as the best layout, its unique to us(as far as we know). We just could not sleep on a ¾ R+R bed, they are 112cm wide which is just above a single and the kids found it uncomfortable as a seat. We never cooked much in the van(now use a jetboil for brews) and the 10l of cold water was not much use. We know its not for everybody.
This layout gave us 5 real seats with the single swivels up front, the factory Kombi rear seats can be used in the original position or 400mm further back, this allows great versatility, when back the seats allow a decent “living” space, 5 people can sit in comfort, the lower bed takes little effort or time to make into a bed (see Video). Sleeps 4 (5 with a cab bed).
It has 230v Hook up, built in charger, Deisel Heater, 16 USB fast chargers, 3 x 12v accessory (cigarette) sockets, 2 x 2.1 x 5.5 female power sockets, 2 x 230v domestic plugs.
Building a van like this is not cheap, over £17000 just in parts to get to this stage in the conversion, this does not include labour, there is around 250 hours of labour in this van!
Whilst the Milage is up, this van has had the major jobs done, Gearbox recon, Clutch and Dual Mass, EGR and Cooler, Turbo, Cam belt, Alternator, most of the suspension etc, another £3k plus in mechanical parts NOT including labour, you would struggle to get this lot done at an independent for less than £6000.
